Unveiling Tandem's Journey 🚀
In this article, we are embarking on a journey of discovery and growth. We have packed it with insights to help you understand one of our products, "Tandem.”
If you are one of our customers you might have heard of Tandem, and many are familiar with it.
Nonetheless, what is Tandem?
Tandem is our Android-native application. It resides on our MobiWire devices, including MobiGo and MobiPrint devices. It is written in Kotlin and is an application with no user interface, it runs as a background service.
TANDEM stands for:
Trinity
Android
Device
Management
What are we using Tandem for?
Well, the main function of Tandem is to provide device management on the above-mentioned devices. Since Tandem is a background service, it runs quietly in the back whilst the client application is front and center.
Mobile device management is one of our core services, it allows our users to manage and monitor their devices, export their health status reports, know their locations, and most importantly, give them 100% remote control of their devices by issuing commands, for example, enabling/disabling WIFI and data, locking access to Settings on the device, setting up an APN, installing a 3rd party APK, updating the APK and so much more.
This is all super useful in the world where there is a need for a single-purpose device and the organization owns the device so user interaction is restricted.
How did Tandem come about?
We envisioned a product that is separate but works together , much like a tandem bicycle :) that provides core functionality allowing a user to manage a device remotely, thus Tandem was born.
How is Tandem presently?
In the present day, Tandem is running successfully on 15,000+ devices across the country.
It is not bound to any specific vertical, Tandem services clients in various industries. From food delivery to life insurance and media.
Now, what began as a promising opportunity and was launched in 2021 has evolved into an outstanding product. Tandem has developed into an exceptional Android application with a primary focus on device management, and it is currently being utilized by many of our customers for various use cases on numerous MobiWire devices.
What is the future of Tandem?
Tandem is presently exclusively accessible for our MobiWire devices, creating a dependency on the sale of the hardware to offer our service. Our vision is to decouple these elements, enabling us to provide Android Device Management beyond the boundaries of MobiWire devices.
On the other hand, one of the limitations Tandem faces is Google services. It cannot provide any Google-related services and is not as easily accessible. With the ongoing transformation of POS systems and advancements driven by technology and changes in customer behaviors, the market is influenced, the systems can run on smartphones, tablets, and many other devices.
Looking at this growth and advancements, this is an opportunity for us to advance our product. We anticipate a great change in our product in the next few years or even months, and we are excited to embark on that journey.
